Course Description

The AP Studio Art course is for students interested in a rigorous and focused study in art. Students will develop a quality portfolio that demonstrates a mastery of concept, composition and execution in 2D design. This course is based on students creating a body of work comprised of three sections; breadth, concentration and quality. This portfolio will be submitted to the College Board for college credit. As in any college level course students will be expected to spend a considerable amount of time outside of class in order to complete assignments.

The Portfolio

The AP Studio Art portfolio is divided in to three sections Breadth, Concentration
and Quality. Each component will be addressed over the year in this course.

Breadth (Range of Approaches)

Focuses on the creation of a variety of work which demonstrates a range of conceptual and technical approaches. Students should also show understanding of design principles. This section will require students to submit 12 digital images.

Concentration (Sustained Investigation)

A body of related works that demonstrates sustained and thoughtful investigation of a specific visual idea. Students will be responsible for choosing their own concentration theme. This section will require students to submit 12 digital images.

 

Quality (Selected Works)

Works that best represent the student's abilities and accomplishments. These works will be physically mailed to the college board, therefore they may NOT exceed 18"X24". This section will require students to mail 5 actual works.
