Course Description
Art 1 is an introductory to the visual arts. Students will be familiarized with the defining Elements and Principles of art in addition to experimenting with numerous art mediums. The content of the course covers a variety of concepts and styles which will use to create their own works that reflect their understanding of these concepts. Art 1 is a prerequisite for all upper level art courses.
Grading
Weekly Participation=25 Points
Students will receive 5 points per day for using their time well and following class procedures.
Daily Drawing=10 Points
At the start of each class students will respond to a drawing/writing prompt in their personal sketchbook. Daily Drawing grades will be put in on Friday for a total of 50 points.
Worksheet=15 Points
Practice worksheets will be given throughout lessons to clarify specific techniques and processes.
Micro Project=30 Points
Micro Projects will be used as preparation and practice for Final Artworks during the lesson.
Quiz=25 Points
Quizzes will be given if students aren't showing technical skill in their artwork.
Final Work=100 Points
Each Final Artwork will have specific criteria that must be met. Students will create a Final Work that focuses on demonstrating successful use of mediums and techniques in a creative way.
Self Assessment Rubric=25 Points
Rubrics will be adapted to the current lesson. If the student completes the rubric as accurately as possible they will be awarded full credit.
Late Work
Work turned in after the due date will receive a 5% deduction.
If a student is absent for any reason they will be given the equivalent amount of time to make-up the assignment without the 5% deduction.
Late work will be accepted for ONLY two weeks after the due date.
